As a divorce mediator, Frank Garfield works for both parties. Although he is a lawyer, he does not represent either party or both parties; instead, he is a lawyer for the situation. In that capacity, he:
- provides authoritative information and guidance,
- offers the benefits of 35 years of experience, knowledge and judgment,
- facilitates the parties' negotiations, and
- prepares the paperwork necessary to conclude the case.
Frank Garfield has been practicing family law in Los Angeles since January 1, 1975, first as a litigator and then as a mediator. Starting in 1992, he began the transition to mediation, and now limits his practice to mediation.
Mr. Garfield no longer makes Court appearances. He represents individual clients only as a consulting attorney or in connection with the negotiation of prenuptial agreements and postnuptial agreements.
Upon request, Mr. Garfield will schedule an introductory meeting with both parties to provide them with an overview of how the process usually goes and to answer their questions. There is no charge for that meeting.
